About

The wild side of the same volcanoes

Virunga National Park is the DRC sector of the range you see from Rwanda: mountain gorillas, a night on Nyiragongo’s crater rim when the volcano is open, and a conservation story that is still being written.

We only operate here when current advice, permits, and logistics are sound. The itinerary is built around Goma, park rules, and a clear decision to go — not a casual add-on to Kigali.

Virunga, when it is open

Gorillas and a night on Nyiragongo

Ask us first. If the park and the climb are on, we will build the papers and the nights around that — not the other way around.

Frequently asked questions

Virunga National Park FAQs

Is Virunga currently bookable?

It depends on park status and local advice. We confirm before we take a deposit. If we cannot operate, we will say so and suggest Rwanda or Uganda instead.

Do I need a DRC visa?

Yes, plus park documentation. We send the current process with the quote so you are not guessing at the border.

Virunga or Volcanoes for gorillas?

Volcanoes is the straightforward Rwanda trek. Virunga is a different country, a different permit, and often the Nyiragongo climb. They are not interchangeable.

How hard is Nyiragongo?

Steep, long, and worth the extra fitness. The night on the rim is cold. We will not put an unfit guest on that trail.

Can we combine Virunga with Kigali?

Yes when the crossing is the plan. Rubavu / Goma is the usual hinge. We do not treat it as a casual day trip.
