About

A world of its own below the rim

Ngorongoro Crater is a single, extraordinary game-drive basin: lion, hyena, flamingo, and a real chance at black rhino on the crater floor.

One night on the rim is the classic. Two nights if you want a second descent or time on the highlands. We go down early and leave before the bowl feels busy.

The crater floor

Go down early, stay long enough to find rhino

We plan one thorough descent. A second night is for guests who want the floor without watching the clock.

Frequently asked questions

Ngorongoro Crater FAQs

Can we stay on the crater floor?

No. Lodges sit on the rim or in Karatu. The floor is a day visit.

Will we see black rhino?

Ngorongoro is one of the better chances in East Africa. It is still a wild animal, not a guarantee.

Is one night enough?

Yes for a single descent. Two nights if you want a slower second morning or highland time.

Karatu or the rim?

The rim if the budget allows. Karatu is cheaper and adds a longer dawn transfer.

Is the crater crowded?

It can be by late morning. We descend early and picnic away from the busiest lakeshore clusters.
