Discover Nairobi

A capital with lions on the skyline

Nairobi is the working heart of Kenya safaris. JKIA and Wilson Airport sit close enough that a well-timed arrival still leaves room for Nairobi National Park or the Giraffe Centre before you fly to the Mara.

We treat the city as a gateway, not a week-long stay: one or two nights, a focused outing, and a hotel that makes the next morning’s flight civilized.

Frequently asked questions

Nairobi travel FAQs

Is one night in Nairobi enough?

Yes if you arrive before mid-afternoon and fly to the Mara the next morning. Add a second night for Nairobi National Park or the Karen circuit.

Should we stay near JKIA or in Karen?

Karen if you have a half-day and want the park or Giraffe Centre. An airport hotel only makes sense for a very late arrival and a dawn Wilson flight.

How early are Wilson flights?

Many Mara flights leave between 07:30 and 10:00. We set a wake-up and transfer that assumes Nairobi traffic, not the empty map.

Is Nairobi National Park worth it?

Yes if you have a morning. It is a real park with rhino and lion, not a zoo — and it is the only big-game reserve on a capital’s doorstep.

Can we combine Kenya and Tanzania?

Easily. Nairobi pairs with Amboseli and a Namanga or air crossing to Kilimanjaro, Ngorongoro, and the Serengeti.
