The journey takes you to Volcanoes National Park in the Virunga Mountains for an unforgettable mountain gorilla trekking experience before returning to Kigali to explore the country’s historical and cultural landmarks.
Beyond gorilla trekking, the safari includes a Kigali city tour, a visit to the National Museum in Butare (Huye), and the King’s Palace Museum in Nyanza, providing deeper insight into Rwanda’s traditional monarchy, culture, and history. Day 01: Arrival and Transfer to Volcanoes National Park
Upon arrival at Kigali International Airport, you will be welcomed by a representative from Gecko Safaris Africa who will brief you about the safari before beginning the journey to Volcanoes National Park in northern Rwanda.
The scenic drive takes you through Rwanda’s beautiful countryside characterized by rolling hills, terraced farms, and rural villages, offering a glimpse into the everyday life of local communities.
Upon arrival in Musanze near the park, check in at your lodge where you can relax and prepare for the gorilla trekking experience the following day.

Day 02: Gorilla Trekking in Volcanoes National Park
After an early breakfast, transfer to the Volcanoes National Park headquarters in Kinigi for a briefing from park rangers regarding the rules and guidelines for gorilla trekking.
Accompanied by experienced trackers and guides, you will begin the trek into the rainforest in search of one of the habituated mountain gorilla families. The trek takes you through dense vegetation and bamboo forests while listening to the sounds of the forest and observing other wildlife.
Along the way, visitors may encounter colorful forest birds, golden monkeys, and signs of other wildlife such as buffalo and forest elephants that inhabit the park.
Once the gorilla family is located, visitors are allowed to spend one unforgettable hour observing the gorillas as they feed, groom, and interact within their social groups.
After the trek, return to the lodge for lunch and relaxation following the exciting adventure.

Day 03: Return to Kigali – Kigali City Tour
After breakfast at the lodge, begin the journey back to Kigali, Rwanda’s vibrant capital city.
Upon arrival, enjoy a guided Kigali city tour which may include visits to local markets, cultural centers, and the Kigali Genocide Memorial. The memorial provides important insight into Rwanda’s tragic past and the country’s journey toward reconciliation and unity.
After the city tour, check in to your hotel for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 04: Visit the National Museum and King’s Palace
After breakfast, depart Kigali for a cultural excursion to Nyanza and Butare (Huye) in southern Rwanda.
The first stop is the King’s Palace Museum in Nyanza, where visitors learn about Rwanda’s traditional monarchy and see the reconstructed royal residence that illustrates the lifestyle of Rwanda’s former kings.
You will also visit the National Museum of Rwanda in Butare, one of the most important cultural museums in East Africa. The museum provides insight into Rwanda’s history, traditions, architecture, and cultural heritage.
After the cultural tour, return to Kigali for dinner and overnight stay.
