Detailed Itinerary
Day 1: Arrival in Arusha.
A company representative will meet you at the airport and drive you to your Arusha accommodation. Depending on your arrival time, you may have the opportunity to relax and prepare for the trip of a lifetime. Bustling Arusha is a key hub in northern Tanzania’s safari experience, with most visitors traveling through at least once.
Day 2:Transfer to Tarangire National Park.
After breakfast, your safari driving guide will pick you up from your accommodation and transport you to Tarangire National Park, which is around a two-hour drive away on well-paved roads. The park, named after the Tarangire River, is the only water supply for wildlife in the area during the dry season, earning it the nickname “river of warthogs.” Tarangire is famous for its elephant herds, which are frequently seen gathering along the river, as well as giraffes, bushbucks, and hartebeests. Predators such as lions and leopards frequently follow them. The park has more breeding bird species than anyplace else in the world, and it is peppered with ancient Baobab trees, some of which are over a thousand years old.
You will have lunch at a picnic area in the park. Following the wildlife drive, you will return to Karatu and your accommodations.
Day 3:Transfer to the Ngorongoro Crater.
After breakfast, you will drive into the cooler areas of the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. As you approach Ngorongoro Crater, it seems like a forgotten planet. Hidden below towering volcanic walls lies a natural environment with broad savannahs, pockets of acacia woodland, and shimmering lakes and wetlands. The Crater, created by a volcanic explosion and collapse two to three million years ago, covers 260 km². It is famous for its geological wonders and as a nature reserve with some of Africa’s densest large mammal populations. Descending into the Crater, you will see vast herds of wildebeest, zebra, gazelle, and over 500 bird species. The Crater provides the best opportunity to see the endangered black rhinoceros.
Lunch will be served at the Crater floor picnic area. You will return to Karatu after your game drive.
Day 4: Lake Manyara National Park and transfer back to Arusha
After breakfast, you will drive to Lake Manyara National Park, a tiny yet diversified park located 120 km west of Arusha. This park’s tight size and stunning scenery, especially the towering Great Rift Escarpment on its western boundary, make for a one-of-a-kind experience. The park’s namesake is a shallow salt lake that floods and dries according to the seasons, drawing hundreds of wading birds, including flamingos and over 500 other bird species. Baboons and elephants can be seen in the park’s deep evergreen forest, while tree-climbing lions are well-known.
You will enjoy a picnic lunch in the park. After your game drive, you will say goodbye to your guide and be dropped off.
