During your 7-day Rwanda gorilla safari, you will get the opportunity to thoroughly visit some of Rwanda’s top sites. On this safari, you will visit many national parks, including Volcanoes, Dian Fossey, Nyungwe, and the Genocide Memorial, where the remains of more than 1,500 individuals are interred.

Detailed Itinerary

Day 1: Transfer to volcanoes national park.

Upon your arrival at Kigali International Airport or your accommodation, our corporate driver will be there to greet you, give you a briefing, and then take you to Volcanoes National Park. Beautiful rolling hills and verdant foliage will be seen on your journey. You will have your nightly meals provided by the lodge, so be sure to check in there when you arrive.

Day 2: Gorilla trekking.

After a hearty meal, it’s time to hit the hay for an early morning training on gorilla trekking safety procedures at the park headquarters. Our distant relatives, the mountain gorillas, will be waiting for you in the bush as you lead a party of eight trekkers into the wild.

After your allotted time with the gorillas has passed, you will return to the lodge. We will return to the lodge for supper and sleep following the communal walk in the afternoon.

Day 3: Dian Fossey tour

After a hearty breakfast, get up early and make your way to the world-renown Dian Fossey Research Centre and cemetery. Nearly twenty years ago, Dr. Dian Fossey began her research facility to habituate, study, and protect the endangered mountain gorillas. Go back to the lodge to have dinner and spend the night.

Day 4: Transfer to Nyungwe national park.

The driver will take you to Nyungwe Forest National Park after you have breakfast in the morning. The montane forest, bamboo, grasslands, wetlands, and bogs are all habituates of the hilly Nyungwe forest. The ideal place to go hiking with golden monkeys is Nyungwe forest. Upon arrival, you will be taken care of by the lodge for your meals and overnight stay.

Day 5: chimpanzee trekking.

After breakfast, you’ll go to headquarters for a chimpanzee tracking briefing. The mission is to find habituated golden monkey populations and chimpanzees in the bush. Among the many species of monkeys you could see in the jungle are owl-faced monkeys, Angolan colobus, blue monkeys, and grey-cheeked mangabeys. On the fourth day, you’ll have dinner and spend the night back at the lodge.

Day 6: Visit Genocide Memorial

After you finish your breakfast, visit the Genocide Memorial to see the graves of the victims. The conflict resulted in the deaths of several Tutsis and Hutus. The hotel Des Millecollines will provide the meals and the bedding.

Day 7: City tour and transfer to the airport

You will be taken on a tour of the city of Kigali, followed by lunch, and then the driver will take you to the airport to catch your aircraft back to your own country.

    Day 1: Arrival and Explore Kigali city.

    On arrival, you will be met by Gecko safaris guide who will be your driver and guide for this tour who will transfer you to your hotel in Kigali to check in and relax. Depending on arrival time, you will have a tour of Kigali city and visit the Gisozi memorial genocide where you will toughed a lot about Rwanda’s history also will visit other genocide memorials, Down town of Kigali, local marks and the national museum of Rwanda, After you will drive back to the hotel for dinner and overnight.

    Day 2: Transfer to Pac De Volcano and visit to Ibyiwachu cultural village.

    Day 3: Golden Monkey tracking – visit twin lakes of Ruhondo and Burera.

    Wake up early for a cup of coffee at your hotel and drive to volcanoes atonal park offices and assemble for briefing by 7:00 am. It lies on the border between the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Rwanda, and is in the Albertine Rift, the western branch of the East African Rift and overlooking Congo DRC, check in at your hotel for lunch,

    Day 5: cross to Congo – Goma to start mount Nyiragongo Hiking

    Wakeup early today for a full breakfast at your hotel and checkout and you can leave some of the bags at this hotel and you only take things you need for Congo activities ,ready to set off crossing into Congo via Goma and drive to Kibati Patro post where briefing for Nyiragongo volcano and start the Hike. Once you reach the summit, you will watch the boiling lava which is very surprising and please note that the world’s largest bubbling lava found atop Mt Nyiragongo (3,470m/11,380ft) in Virunga National Park. They chose the Democratic Republic of Congo because they felt that the country needed their support, tonight you will sleep in the sounds of volcano.Dinner and overnight at the top of the volcano

    Day 6: Descend the volcano – Visit Goma Town overnight in Goma

    Wake up to a cup of coffee with full breakfast and checkout to start the descending down the Volcano, Mount Nyiragongo is one of the world’s greatest wonders. Your guide will be waiting for your arrival to drive you to your hotel in virunga national park and check in at Kibumba camp in jungle of virunga national park and you will check in time for lunch and relax for the next activities.

    Day 7: Mt Gorilla Trekking – proceed to Tchegera Island

    Have a full breakfast at your hotel and drive to Virunga national park for briefing and after briefing you enter the forest of virunga to find orientation for mountain gorilla trekking in Virunga national park. There are nine gorilla families around Bukima, and six of them are habituated (meaning expert rangers have accustomed them to humans). We are divided into small groups according to fitness. You will be split into groups of 8 tourists and embark on your gorilla tour to meet your habituated gorilla family. Once your hour with the gorillas is done, meet your guide back at the tracking point. Have lunch at your hotel and be ready to transfer to Tchegera Island on this jouney you will drive through the congo jungles and you will be able to see a lot of plantations including trees and bamboo. You will cross with speed boat to Tchegera islands and relax.

    Day 8: Full Day Relaxing at Tchegera Island

    Spend today relaxing at Tchegera Island with magnificent views.The Camp is the perfect way to escape the hustle and bustle of Goma or to relax after climbing Nyiragongo volcano. Situated off the northern shore of L. Kivu, Tchegera camp offers spectacular views of the lake and four volcanoes. On clear nights, Nyiragongo and Nyamulagira volcanoes.     Day 9: Transfer to Kisoro

    Wake up to a beautiful breakfast at your hotel and be ready to take a speed boat back to shore and drive via goma town and you will be able to see sight of volcano eruption in 2002s and also the families affected, you will check out of Congo DRC through the same boarder point to Rwanda and meet with your drive again who will transfer you to Chanika boarder post between Rwanda and Uganda, The drive will be via musanze town crossing into Uganda to Kisoro which is almost the same land scape and people almost speak the same language, and check in at your hotel and in the evening you will take a walk to the local markets and then back in time for dinner.

    Day 10: Second Gorilla Trekking in Bwindi forest / Gahinga national park

    after breakfast you will drive to the range station and have a briefing about the gorillas in the forest and other animals and the also sprit in the groups of 8 people to enter the Bwindi national park for Gorilla Trekking, Bwindi forest offers a real jungle adventure, the forest is also a home of other animals like forest elephants, lions, buffalos with a lot of birds and better to come with binoculars. Bwindi has a tropical climate. Average temperatures range from a minimum of 7-20°C to a maximum of 20-27°C. Bwindi receives up to 2390mm of rain each year. It can get really cold especially in the mornings and at night. After gorilla trekking you will drive back to the lodge to relax and maybe a village walk in the evening.

    Day 11: Transfer to Queen Elizabeth National Park driving via the Ishasha Sector to view tree climbing lions

    Have a beautiful breakfast at your hotel you check out and start off for Queen Elizabeth national park, the largest savannah park in the Uganda. Enroute drive via the Ishasha sector of the park to view tree climbing lions hanging in fig trees and after you will proceed to the northern side of the park and you will enter through the main gate and drive through channel drive to connect to your hotel. Check in and if time allows you will have a evening game drive to see some animals and birds slow down as you drive to your hotel for lunch.Dinner and overnight at

    Day 12: Morning Game Drive – Afternoon Launch Cruise along the Kazinga Channel

    After your breakfast, you will go for the morning game drive in Kasenyi area to search for different wildlife animals missed out in the previous game drive including hyenas, buffalos, elephants, kobs, lions, leopards e t c . Later visit the Katwe explosion craters. Here you will spot Kitagata Lake and the enormous Kamengo Crater and this will give you clear view of different wildlife around the Park.

    In the afternoon we will go for a launch trip along the Kazinga Channel. This gives you the opportunity to view wildlife up close: hippo’s huff and spray at a mere feet away from the boat, buffalo linger in the shallows. The shores of the channel are also home to an array of birds including pink backed pelicans, pied and malachite kingfishers, saddle billed stork and many others.

    Day 14: Chimpanzee Tracking – Visit twin Bigodi swamp

    Have breakfast at your hotel and be ready to transfer to Kibale park head offices for briefing before you start chimpanzee tracking. Tracking for chimpanzees takes about 3 – 4 hours and will come across other primates like white and black Colobus monkeys, olive baboons, red Colobus, grey checked mangabey in the forest. After the tracking chimps, return back to your hotel for lunch and later visit Bigodi eco swamp.

    Day 15: Transfer to Murchison Falls National Park

    Today you will set off early for Murchison Falls national park. Check out of Kibale national park and you will be traveling on both asphalt and unpaved roads, you pass through traditional Ugandan Villages where you see people at work tending their traditional crops of millet, sorghum, beans and maize. The lush rolling hills of this region provide good “photo opportunities”. As you approach the park for the great view of Albert Nile but before you will  have a brief stop for lunch and stretch for the last 3 hours drive to Murchison falls  national park the home of big five

    Day 16: Morning Game drive – Afternoon Launch Cruise

    Today you will wake up easy and be off early with packed breakfast and drive to the park to start your game drive with a ranger from the Uganda Wildlife Authority. The rangers know all the spots with wildlife, you will see elephants, giraffes, buffaloes, antelopes, lions, variety of savannah birds and so much more

      Have a beautiful breakfast at your hotel you check out and start off for Queen Elizabeth national park, the largest savannah park in the Uganda. Enroute drive via the Ishasha sector of the park to view tree climbing lions hanging in fig trees and after you will proceed to the northern side of the park and you will enter through the main gate and drive through channel drive to connect to your hotel. Check in and if time allows you will have a evening game drive to see some animals and birds slow down as you drive to your hotel for lunch.Dinner and overnight at

      Day 12: Morning Game Drive – Afternoon Launch Cruise along the Kazinga Channel

      After your breakfast, you will go for the morning game drive in Kasenyi area to search for different wildlife animals missed out in the previous game drive including hyenas, buffalos, elephants, kobs, lions, leopards e t c . Later visit the Katwe explosion craters. Here you will spot Kitagata Lake and the enormous Kamengo Crater and this will give you clear view of different wildlife around the Park.

      In the afternoon we will go for a launch trip along the Kazinga Channel. This gives you the opportunity to view wildlife up close: hippo’s huff and spray at a mere feet away from the boat, buffalo linger in the shallows. The shores of the channel are also home to an array of birds including pink backed pelicans, pied and malachite kingfishers, saddle billed stork and many others.

      Day 13: Transfer to Kibale National park – Visit the crater region

      Today you will set off at leisure for Kibale national park with en route stops and lunch. Later visit the crater region.

      Day 14: Chimpanzee Tracking – Visit twin Bigodi swamp

      Have breakfast at your hotel and be ready to transfer to Kibale park head offices for briefing before you start chimpanzee tracking. Tracking for chimpanzees takes about 3 – 4 hours and will come across other primates like white and black Colobus monkeys, olive baboons, red Colobus, grey checked mangabey in the forest. After the tracking chimps, return back to your hotel for lunch and later visit Bigodi eco swamp.

      Day 15: Transfer to Murchison Falls National Park

      Today you will set off early for Murchison Falls national park. Check out of Kibale national park and you will be traveling on both asphalt and unpaved roads, you pass through traditional Ugandan Villages where you see people at work tending their traditional crops of millet, sorghum, beans and maize. The lush rolling hills of this region provide good “photo opportunities”. As you approach the park for the great view of Albert Nile but before you will  have a brief stop for lunch and stretch for the last 3 hours drive to Murchison falls  national park the home of big five

      Day 16: Morning Game drive – Afternoon Launch Cruise

      Today you will wake up easy and be off early with packed breakfast and drive to the park to start your game drive with a ranger from the Uganda Wildlife Authority. The rangers know all the spots with wildlife, you will see elephants, giraffes, buffaloes, antelopes, lions, variety of savannah birds and so much more
      Have lunch after which head out for a river Nile sunset Launch cruise. Expect to view crocodiles, herds of elephants, buffalos, hippos, lizards, lots of birds.

      Day 17: checkout and transfer to Kidepo valley national park.

      After breakfast you will checkout from pakuba game lodge and drive out of the park through the northern side of the park and drive through Gulu town to connect to Kidepo Valley National Park

      Day 17: Transfer to Kampala with enroute stop and Zziwa Rhino

      Drive back to Kampala after your breakfast with enroute visit to the Zziwa Rhino sanctuary to track rhinos and transfer back to Kampala.

      Day 18: visit to the source of the Nile in Jinja

      After breakfast you will be picked up by Gecko Safari’s representative, driver and guide who has been tailored to be accommodating, suit your needs and make you feel at home in your new temporary home; Uganda. He will pick you from the bus station on arrival in jinja and transfer you by private vehicle adrift base camp and student will check in dorm beds and teachers will be in twin or triple rooms.

      Day 19: Full day white water rafting.

      After breakfast you will take a full day adventure on the Nile with boats to grade 5 rapids. You will have a boat cruise on the source of the Nile and a tour to jinja town the industrial city of Uganda, back to the lodge for camp fire and dinner.
