Nestled between Rwanda and Burundi, Lake Cyohoha—also known as Lake Cohoha or Cyohoha Sud—offers a tranquil escape into nature. This elongated lake stretches approximately 32 kilometers in length, with an average width of 1 kilometer, covering a total area of 74 square kilometers. Of this, 19 square kilometers lie within Rwanda, while the remaining 55 square kilometers are in Burundi.

Lake Cyohoha’s calm waters and surrounding marshlands create a haven for various bird species, making it a paradise for birdwatchers. The lake is fed by the Rugamura Marsh, which receives water from rivers such as the Gatunguru, Runyoni, and Nduruma. Public transportation options include buses and shared taxis heading towards Bugesera District, with motorcycle taxis (motos) available for the final leg to the lake.

The ideal time to visit Lake Cyohoha is during the dry seasons, from June to September and December to February. These periods offer favorable weather conditions for outdoor activities and wildlife viewing.
