Cultural Preservation and Celebrations
The Karamoja Cultural Festival, held in September 2024 in Karenga District, attracted both local and international visitors. The festival showcased traditional music, dance, crafts, and cuisine, reinforcing the importance of cultural tourism. President Yoweri Museveni, in attendance, emphasized the government’s commitment to supporting such initiatives, fostering unity among the region’s diverse communities.
In February 2025, the Cultural Heritage Festival is set to take place in Nakapiripirit Grounds. This event will further celebrate Karamoja’s traditions, featuring dance, music, and storytelling. These festivals serve as a reminder of the region’s rich heritage and its role in national identity.
Economic Development and Transformation
To drive economic growth, the Ugandan government has introduced a comprehensive 10-year development plan for Karamoja, running from 2024 to 2035. In February 2025, President Museveni addressed the role of military courts in maintaining security in Karamoja.
